Role Overview: As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist at Big Health, you will be responsible for overseeing the company’s payroll and benefits administration processes. Your main focus will be to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with government regulations, and alignment with internal policies and practices. Reporting to the Senior Manager of People Operations, you will collaborate closely with the Finance & Accounting team.
Responsibilities:
- Support the integration of a new payroll and benefits admin system, streamlining timekeeping processes for scalability
- Process end-to-end payroll for our US and international teams, including bonuses and commissions calculation and payment
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Manage regular payroll audits, including timecards and benefit deductions
- Assist with benefits administration, ensuring compliance with health & welfare, 401(k), and COBRA benefits, as well as overseeing the annual open enrollment processes
- Administer leave policies, including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations
- Prepare information for annual audits, required reporting, and tax filings
- Act as the main point of contact and subject matter expert for payroll and benefits inquiries from internal teams and external partners such as benefits brokers and carriers
- Provide exceptional support to employees, addressing payroll and benefits questions and concerns with a people-first approach while maintaining compliance with federal regulations
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration (experience with multi-state and international payroll in a complex business is highly desirable)
- In-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations related to exempt and non-exempt payroll, benefits compliance, and relevant filings (ERISA, COBRA, ACA, etc.)
- Familiarity with leave policies and applicable laws (FMLA, disability, maternity, parental, and state-paid leave)
- Proficiency with HRIS systems (experience with Paylocity preferred)
- Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities

Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000 per year (base salary only; additional compensation and benefits not included)

Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location, and individual pay is influenced by factors such as work location, skills, experience, and education.
