DCTAG Landscape: A Guide to Understanding It

Who can apply?

DCTAG applicants are required to be:

  • You must be a US citizen or eligible for non-citizenship.
  • A student who attends a public or private university or college is eligible.
  • The applicant must have been a District of Columbia Resident for at least 12 consecutive months prior to their first year of college. They must also maintain this residence throughout their college matriculation. (NOTE: For dependent students [under 24 years old], the home of the student is determined by the parent/guardian).
  • Not in default with federal student loan;
  • High school graduates or holders of the General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Accepted to enroll in or work toward a First Undergraduate Degree on at least a half-time schedule as a regular student seeking a degree;
  • A person who does not have a Bachelor’s Degree;
  • A person who does not hold a graduate or professional degree;
  • The college/university where you are enrolled or accepted as a student must comply with the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), which is defined by them.
  • DCTAG’s maximum income thresholds must be met. Please review the following guidance to determine your income level according to the award year and the first year of postsecondary studies. Please contact your DCTAG adviser if you have any questions.

The Application Process: From Dreams to Reality

Follow these steps to apply for DCTAG:

  1. Completion of the DC OneApp annually.
  2. Fill out the FAFSA.
  3. Give the DC OneApp Requires Supporting Documents.
    • It may seem simple (three steps), but the process can be quite complex. Sometimes it takes a few attempts to get the right supporting documents.

All documents must be uploaded in.pdf format at the same time. It is therefore important to prepare all documents in advance. DCTAG advisors can help applicants who have to try more than 10 times to upload their documents correctly or who are unable to convert their documents into.pdf format.

The DCTAG 2023-24 application will open on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Don’t forget to follow the links to complete each of the steps. OSSE and the DCTAG team are available to guide you through the DCTAG process.

How Much Can I Get in DCTAG?

The amount of DCTAG you can receive depends on your financial need and the cost of attendance at your school. The maximum award is $10,000 per year.

DCTAG Disbursement Process

Note: Complete “The Application Process” steps before

  1. Sign in to DC OneApp with your college or university’s username and password.
  2. You must submit a W-9 and sign the Program Participation Agreement for Public and Private Non-Profit Institutions of Higher Education. This will certify that your tax ID number is correct.
  3. You will need to enter the required data into DC OneApp. This includes Cost of Attendance (includes credit hour cost), Out-of-State Tuition (includes out-of-state tuition), and Contact Information.
  4. DCTAG will receive your invoice from your college or university and you can pay it directly via DC OneApp. The invoice is sent electronically, along with an Enrollment Chart that includes the student’s name and SSN. It also shows the tuition requested.
  5. Your student account will be credited by the college or university.
